The Gniezno Doors are Romanesque bronze doors from the second half of the 12th century – one of the finest works of medieval art in Europe and the pride of the cathedral. Eighteen panels depict, in relief, scenes from the life and martyrdom of St Adalbert, bishop and patron saint of Poland.
This unique cast work impresses with its wealth of detail and narrative composition, in which you can “read” successive episodes of the saint’s biography. The doors are located in the cathedral porch, so you will see them while visiting – they are impossible to miss.
